During their visit to the province of Groningen Anouchka van Miltenburg and Max van den Berg visited EnTranCe and the Energy Academy Europe. During their visit to the Energy Academy Europe, academic director André Faaij informed them about the goals and activities of Energy Academy Europe. However, since there was a specific interests in seeing concrete examples of “energy students”, the focus was placed on meeting students from the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and the University of Groningen. The various presentations by students signified the importance of energy as an integrated theme in all levels of higher education and in research.

A tour around the facility of EnTranCe, the test lab for applied research in energy, showed the diversity of educational projects being carried out at the moment. Niels Tammeling, a student of Mechanical Engineering at the Hanze University, is currently enrolled in a minor at EnTranCe in order to work on his project “Trintella4Green”. Niels is set to commence a 100% sustainable journey by sailboat shortly, in order to call attention to innovative energy technology which he is currently testing out at EnTranCe. Anouchka van Miltenburg and Max van den Berg were clearly impressed by the students’ stories and showed interest in further visits in the future.
