On Friday 15 March, 13:30 – 15:30, the Masterclass: ‘European and Russian energy policies: Areas for cooperation’ will take place. A panel of experts will explain and discuss the current European and Russian energy policies.
Dialogue and the exchange of ideas are at the heart of a Masterclass. Therefore only a limited number of students can attend this Masterclass. A brief motivation must be attached to your registration why you should attend this Masterclass. This Masterclass will be moderated by Noé van Hulst, Director Energy Academy Europe.
About the panel:

Prof. Dr. Albert Bressand is the current Professor of Practice in International and Public Affairs, School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), and Executive Director of the Energy, Marine Transportation and Public Policy Center at Columbia University, New York, NY.
Albert Bressand formerly led the Global Business Environment department in Royal Dutch Shell’s global headquarters in London from 2003-2006. In this capacity, he was responsible for designing a new generation of Shell Global Scenarios around an enhanced, original methodology for risk and opportunity assessment. Dr. Bressand has also been appointed Special Adviser to the EU Commissioner in charge of energy in Brussels.
Previously, he was managing director and cofounder of Promethée, a nonprofit, Paris-based think tank specializing in the emerging global networked economy and its implications for corporate strategies, capital markets, and international economic relations. He also served as Economic Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France and held key positions with the French Institute for International Relations and the World Bank.
He has published notably in Foreign Affairs, International Affairs, Futuribles, Politique Internationale, Revue d’Economie Financiére, Le Monde among others.
Dr. Bressand earned advanced degrees in both mathematics and engineering at École Polytechnique in Paris, École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées and Paris-Sorbonne, and a MPA and a PhD in Political Economy at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Currently professor of Practice in International and Public Affairs, school of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), and Executive Director of the Energy, Marine Transportation and Public Policy Center at Colombia University, New York, NY and the former Vice-President Global Business Environment at Royal Dutch Shell and Special Advisor to EU Energy Commissioner Piebalgs.

Publications: Author of the books “Energy Diplomacy (Russia and World on the eve of the XXI century: balance or clash of interests?)” (published in 1999), “The Fundamentals of Energy Diplomacy” (published in 2003). The adapted version of “The Fundamentals of Energy Diplomacy” is translated in Chinese and published in China entitled “World Energy Resources: Policy and Diplomacy” by East China Normal University Press in 2005. His latest book “Energy Diplomacy of Russia: Economics, Politics and Practice” was published in 2006 (in Russian) in Moscow and (in Chinese) in Beijing.
Scientific and scholastic activity: Professor (part time), International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy of MGIMO of MFA of RF (Moscow) and Gubkin Oil and Gas State University (Moscow). Head of the academic team that published a number of analytical-research papers on international energy policy and energy security problems in the context of New Energy Strategy of Russia and Russia G-8 Presidency in 2006 for the Ministry of Industry and Energy of Russia (1994-2005).
