Energy Masterclass: Talking Energy Transition – with Yvo de Boer (students only)

This Energy Masterclass you will explore the current discourse about the Energy Transition with Yvo de Boer, President of the Gold Standard Foundation. Yvo will talk about avoiding dangerous climate change: why is what (almost) everyone thinks is a no-brainer, proving to be such a struggle.

Date: Wednesday, 6 March 2019
Time: 14:30 – 15:30 h
Location: Energy Barn, EnTranCe (Zernikelaan, 9747 AA Groningen)

Yvo de Boer on how he will be diving into this theme during this Energy Masterclass:

”Although President Trump has vowed to leave the Paris climate agreement, Brazil may join him an a massive minority thinks climate change is a hoax, taking the action people around the world want is a struggle. Greenhouse gas emissions are higher than they have ever been before, our fossil fuel addiction is hard to kick and, as usual, the road to hell is paved with little more than good intentions.

So what’s the problem? The problem is that we a locked-into an extremely fossil fuel intense economic model, alternative technologies struggle in the market place and governments and consumers (yes, I’m talking to you) are unwilling to give the right choices the price-tag they deserve.

If only it were that simple! Actually the challenges that stand in the way of ambitious climate action are complex and hugely diverse in nature: political, economic, geographic, class-related and historic, to mention just a few. This means that we need to find solutions across multiple issues (or chess boards, if you will).During this Masterclass I hope we can understand, debate and maybe even untangle this complex web we weave, when first we practice to deceive (sadly Sir Walter Scott will not be joining us).”
